Maryland is expensive

I've heard that the Washington D.C. metropolitan area is the 7th most expensive place to live in the lower 48. Looking at the stats on this and other websites, I believe it. I'm staying here long enough to retire, sell my house and move to a place that's not as crowded or expensive.
